Summary of Blood



Blood is made up of liquid and solid. The liquid part, called plasma, is made of water, salts, and protein. Over half of blood is plasma. The solid part of blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. There are four blood types: A, B, AB, or O. Also, blood is either Rh-positive or Rh-negative.

A Brief Timeline of Cowan, Edith Dircksey (1861–1932)
2 August 1861
Born at Glengarry near Geraldton, Western Australia.
1868
Edith’s mother died in childbirth, and she went to a Perth boarding school run, she completed her education with Canon Sweeting, ex-headmaster of Bishop Hale's School.
2 November 1879
Edith married James Cowan in St George's Cathedral
Between 1880 and 1891
Got four daughters and a son
In the 1890s
Edith Cowan became involved in voluntary organizations
In 1894
She was the Karrakatta Women's Club's first secretary
In 1903 and 1912
Cowan went overseas to Britain and Europe.
In 1909
Cowan was an initiator of the Women's Service Guild and was vice-president.
In 1911
She was prominent in the creation of the Western Australian National Council of Women.
In 1913-21
She was its president and vice-president until her death.
In 1916
She was a foundation member of Co-Freemasonry in her State, and the first female member of the Anglican Social Questions Committee.
In 1920
She took on a wide range of war work for which she was appointed O.B.E, and legislation ended the legal bar to women entering parliament.
In 1921
Elections Cowan was one of five women candidates.
In the 1924
Elections West Perth business interests stood a strong candidate in T. A. L. Davy.
In 1925
Cowan went to the United States of America as an Australian delegate to the sixth convention of the International Council.
In 1927
She failed again.
In 1926
Cowan was a founder of the (Royal) Western Australian Historical Society, and contributed to its journal—her daughter Dircksey was its first keeper of records.
9 June 1932
She died and was buried in the Anglican section of Karrakatta cemetery.
